Ukrainian military personnel conducted a test deployment of the American Hornet kamikaze drone using a high-altitude balloon system. The aerostat transported the UAV over a distance of 42 km before releasing it at an altitude of approximately 8 km. The concept is designed to extend the operational range of the drone by 1.5 to 2 times by enabling launch from elevated atmospheric positions, reducing energy consumption during initial flight phase and increasing effective reach for subsequent mission execution and target engagement scenarios. The test demonstrates an experimental approach to expanding UAV deployment capabilities through airborne launch platforms.
