Le froid complique tout : tirer avec des gants, manipuler l’équipement, transporter armes lourdes et munitions sur des traîneaux improvisés.
Après leur dernière expérience majeure en terrain montagneux lors de la campagne d’Afghanistan en 2012, l’armée française veut à nouveau renforcer cette capacité, alors que l’attention géopolitique se tourne vers les régions froides : Arctique, Groenland, Scandinavie, Finlande, mais aussi l’Ukraine.
Pour se préparer à de futures missions de longue durée, 500 chasseurs alpins participent à trois semaines d’exercices dans un camp d’entraînement de grande ampleur. Une petite équipe a déjà été envoyée au Groenland en janvier, et plusieurs centaines de soldats de la brigade prendront bientôt part à des manœuvres de l’OTAN en Finlande.
